Skin Camouflage

October 30, 2018. No comments.

I started off my makeup career working in the glitzy world of the  Fashion Industry and working with models, designers and top makeup artists. As much as I loved this industry and the creativity it offered. I always wanted to do something to help people, having personally suffered with low self esteem and confidence i was aware how much makeup helped people and could always understand when someone came to have their makeup done but arrived in a full face of makeup. Often clients would be apologising for wearing makeup saying “I just can’t leave the house without it” I would often see clients that had scars, birthmarks, pigmentation etc and I would do my best to cover them up with general makeup but it just didn’t stay on for that long. I wanted to do more to help and then I found out about skin camouflage and the BASC [read on]

Get your glow on!!

November 4, 2015. No comments.

Well it's been a very long time since I have posted a blog. But it's been such a busy year with weddings, shoots and the academy has been busier than ever. It's actually taken me to have a day off ill to take the time to do this blog! And as any freelance makeup artist will know having a day off ill means you actually spend the day feeling sick with worry about letting clients down. So this blog is about the perfect glowing skin and as usual product reviews on this years star products. A lot of brides may ask for dewy skin or to have a glow, but not sweaty or greasy looking! And as its all the rage to do strobing ( basically highlighter) its never been so fashionable to have a glow! For the last few months a lot of clients had been asking me about Charlotte's Magic [read on]

Contouring made easy

February 12, 2015. No comments.

Nowdays when I go to do a trial or makeover I am always asked about contouring and can I give them cheekbones, a smaller nose, a slimmer jaw and forehead I blame Kim kardashian for this obsession, don't get me wrong i love her makeup but as I try very hard and politely to explain to my clients that contouring for wedding makeup or day to day makeup is very different from catwalk and Photoshoots and this is due to lighting. Off course we can do contouring but for daily makeup it needs to be done right to avoid looking like a panda with dirty brown lines down ones face. So I have listed my favourite and easy to use contouring pallets by having your highlight and contouring colour all in one palette it just makes life so much quicker. I have mainly listed powder versions as getting [read on]

Make-up for travelling

July 29, 2014. No comments.

This blog is a little later than planned! But it's peak wedding season,so been super busy getting organised for all my lovely brides and our makeup courses I thought I would do this blog about my recent trip to zimbabwe and how I coped practically makeup free. As most people that know me well or that have been unfortunate enough to have to travel with me, I don't travel lightly and this is usually down to carrying around 10kg of makeup in my suitcase and hand luggage! This is no joke! It's not that I wear 10kg or makeup or even take it out of the bag when on holiday its more of a safety blanket, that if for some bizarre reason I wanted to go out wearing neon eyeshadows that I at least have them with me, it's more of a "just in case" thing. This has got better over the [read on]

First date Makeup

June 14, 2014. No comments.

We have been having an increasing number of one day Makeup lessons at the school recently and many of those have been for lovely ladies that are about to start dating again or trying online dating and wanting advice on how to do their makeup for the date! Often the ladies have busy life's an want to learn how to go from work out on their date and have a quick easy makeup look. In the tutorial they learn four different makeup looks and we also ask them to bring in their current makeup bag we then discuss what's right and wrong with their current makeup routine. Even if your not going on a first date and are happily settled, we run tutorials to teach you new looks and update your makeup bag. Going on that first date is very nerve-racking especially if you have never actually met before in the [read on]

Semi permanent mascara and trekking

May 8, 2014. No comments.

I am writing this on my way to Wales, I am off to see family, incorporate a bridal trial and then do a three day trek of Breacon Beacons (in preparation for kilimanjaro in october) The car is loaded with makeup kit, hair kit, all my trekking gear including walking poles and then all my normal clothing! It looks like i am emigrating! The reason for this blog is, I suddenly realised earlier in the week that people that go trekking or walking ( I am not usually one of them) probably don't turn up with a face full of makeup on or even take any with them! So I had to think how i could still look reasonably ok! With minimal or no makeup for three days! So I booked myself in for a new treatment called Myscara a semi permanent tint for the lashes that lasts around [read on]

It’s all about the eyes

April 30, 2014. No comments.

So as I said in my last blog I am aiming to review a few new products every few weeks. I always like to try makeup products out before they go in my kit, so I know how they work and look on the skin. I wouldn't ever use something on a client that I hadn't tested first. This week I tested YSL forever youth liberator new eye cream, I have always been someone that skipped this step in my daily routine as I couldn't see how it could make a difference. But as I have been working such long days and had begun to look extremely tired, decided I would give an Eye cream a go, so popped off to the ysl counter to pick up my all time favourite mascara ( volume effects) http://www.yslbeauty.co.uk/make-up/eyes/mascara/mascara-volume-effect-faux-cils and decided to give their eye cream a go. The youth liberator eye cream is [read on]

I decided I should start doing reviews on my favourite products that I use in my kit and new products I have tried and tested. I am fairly new to blogging/ lazy/ not sure how to do it very well. so here is my first attempt. The latest product I have tried and love is the lovely Melvita orange blossom water, I used this on a few clients and models recently it makes the skin super soft and clean feeling, it's also great to prep the skin before the Makeup is applied http://fr.melvita.com/orange-blossom-water--organic-certified--melvita,2,1,5187,226.htm My new favourite foundation is by CHANEL Vitalumiere Aqua is a beautiful foundation is light and feeds like your not even wearing foundation but it still gives a good coverage. It has a semi matte finish so lovely to use on brides wanting a matte finish but without looking like they are wearing any.Its [read on]
